INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF CREATIVITY IN MUSIC EDUCATION VOL.10

Vol. 10 of the International Journal of Creativity in Music Education has been published in May 2023. The special issue of vol.10 is titled “Expanding the Reach of Creative Music.”  Readers of the journal can discover the expansion of creative music activities from the papers in this journal which cover several musical genres and offer innovative activities for music class students.

New to this volume, we will not only include the papers themselves but also related audio and visual materials. Readers will be able to see in detail what students are doing in Creative Music-making classes at different levels of education, from elementary school to university.

To present, this journal has been read by more than 2,500 people from over 50 countries, and we hope that with the publication of this volume, our readership will continue to grow.

The interest we have received is testimony to the growing importance of creativity in music education as a component of music class lessons.

INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF CREATIVITY IN MUSIC EDUCATION VOL.9

Vol. 9 of the journal above was published in March 2022. The special issue of vol.9 is titled “Everyone Can Create Music,” which centers on the key phrase from the SDGs “No one will be left behind.” In this special issue, we focus on fostering “creativity,” not on the skill of playing instruments or reading music! This is the philosophy of the journal’s publisher, the Institute of Creativity in Music Education. We hope this journal will be of some use to musicians and researchers of various fields.

It is now available on this website as a web journal.

“Creativity in Music Education” (2019), co-edited by Yukiko Tsubonou, the president of this Institute, was reported as the most read book from January to September 2020 by Springer, which is one of the world-renowned publishers of scholarly works. This book was selected in the category of “SDGs 4: Quality Education for All” of United Nations.

Moreover, “Web of Science”, which is a worldwide, state-of-the-art database, reported to the editors that this book has been selected as an addion to the “Core Collection”.

It introduces the practice and research of creative music education, mainly in Japan and other Asian countries. It seems that a book about music education centered on Japan, especially about “Creative Music Making” written in English and introduced to the world, had never been published before.

The following people contributed papers to the book as related persons of this Institute.

Kondo, Shinko(et al.), Learner Agency in Musical Creative Process and Learning.

Imada, Tadhiko, Soundscape, Sound Education, and the Grain of the Music.

Koma, Kumiko, Exploring Children’s Creative Musical Conversations Using the Tambourine.
